Discovering Barcelona

The Corte Ingles on Plaza Catalunya, the central square of Barcelona.

Hi, I’m Thibaut I’m 19 years old and I’ve been in Barcelona for 5 months now. Having done my semester of expatriation here, I wanted to stay there to do my internship because I like it a lot in this city!

First of all what I really appreciate is the ideal climate! Also, one of the things that impressed me the most was the crowd in the streets, at all hours and every day there are people walking around, that makes the city very lively. One place I love to go is La Boqueria, this market is beautiful and very friendly. Then I continue down the Rambla to Barceloneta where I walk along the sea or jog, which is very pleasant. The possibility of being able to move around the city at any time makes it easier to discover the city, indeed the metro, tram, bus or even taxis allow great mobility! All the elements are combined to discover and enjoy the city to the fullest.

Barcelona really seems to be a city that offers something for everybody: from great food to art, sunny weather and the beach, and fantastic architecture.

And in winter it is posisble to go to the mountains to ski, only one and a half hour by car or public transport.

An activity you can spend a lot of time on in  Barcelona is shopping! Indeed, there are so many different styles and stores that we are spoilt for choice. I go a lot to the many Zara shops that are located around  Plaza Catalunya or also to the Cortes Inglès wharehouse where you can find absolutely anything you want.

When my French friends came to see me during their holidays, we went shopping in the famous avenue Passeig de Gracia, just next to Plaza Catalunya. We really liked it because there are the most famous brands in the world and we had an excellent afternoon. We then spent the evening in the “El Born” district where we ate in a very good restaurant , a tapas bar called “La Bona Sort”. My friends loved Barcelona and only want to come back!

I can’t wait to spend my first summer in Barcelona to enjoy the sun and the beach or its many rooftops where pool parties are organized! One thing I’ve also heard a lot about is the brunches that are held on Sunday afternoons on Montjuic hill. So I look forward to the start of the many festivities !
