Casa Batlló

As we mentioned before, situated close to the La Pedrera in the very heart of Passeig de Gràcia you can find the very funky and colourful Casa Batlló! Built between 1904 and 1906 Casa Batlló is representative building of Catalan architecture. The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones) becuse of the balconies in the form of skulls and the pillars of the gallery that resemble the bones. It became part of  Unesco World Heritage Site in 2005.

One can not help but admit that the  building sincerly awakens the imagination and it takes time to notice all the details both from the outside and inside.  Unlike La Pedrera witch was built from  zero, this family dwelling (Batlló family) is a renovated version of a previous building. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles which was after recognized as Gaudí signature. Also, he staged the legend of Saint George in the architecture of Casa Batlló.
